Dental Services

Dental care is an important part of your horses’ welfare. We recommend they have a dental examination at least every 12 months to keep them pain free and healthy.

An adult horse has 36 teeth and unlike humans their teeth continually erupt by 3-4mm a year. Sharp points can occur on the molars which are routinely rasped down. Hooks can also occur which should be removed.

All our vets carry a dental kit in their car and can perform routine dental work at stable side. We also have an electric dremmel for more corrective work. Our portable x-ray machine can radiograph heads/teeth for more complex dental cases. We also have a portable oroscope (a camera on a flexible rod) which allows better visualisation of the back molars.

Our vets also carry sedation with them so if your horse is struggling to cope we have various sedatives to suit your horse.

Dental procedures we perform:

  • The routine dental check and rasp
  • Removal of wolf teeth
  • Filling of diastemas
  • Extractions
  • X-ray
  • Oroscope
